Evangelicals Give EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy Award For Protecting Children & Vulnerable Populations

Today the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) is proud to present The Lion’s Den award to Gina McCarthy, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  The award is given to those who show courageous leadership in protecting vulnerable groups from pollution and its consequences.

During her time at EPA Gina McCarthy has been one of EEN’s staunchest allies in the fight to protect all children from pollution.

“We forged a friendship in our successful fight to address mercury pollution, and carried that forward in our fight to reduce carbon and methane pollution,” said the Rev. Mitch Hescox, EEN’s President/CEO.  “It has been the most successful partnership between a faith group and the EPA in our nation’s history.”

Pro-Life Christians organized by EEN submitted over 650,000 comments to the EPA in support of the mercury, carbon, and methane rules.

The award was presented to Administrator McCarthy at a ceremony in her office in Washington, DC, by Hescox and The Rev. Dr. Jim Ball, Ex. Vice President.

In their letter accompanying the award to Administrator McCarthy they state:

From the beginning of your career in 1980 as your hometown’s health officer, through numerous positions in your home state of Massachusetts in both Democrat and Republican Administrations, to your position as head of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, you have never shirked a challenge.  You have fought the good fight to make things better, finding ways for all parties to work together to achieve the common good so that everyone wins.
