House Republicans Step Up on Addressing Climate Risk

Statement by Rev. Mitch Hescox:

In our current political climate three House Republicans this week have offered courageous leadership of a kind not seen recently.  First, they have offered something rare, bipartisanship.  But second, this bipartisan leadership is focused on something rarer still in the halls of the House – addressing climate change.

We are quite grateful to Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), Rep. Bob Dold (R-IL), and Rep. Chris Gibson (R-NY) for joining four Democrats in cosponsoring H.R. 6240, the Climate Solutions Commission Act of 2016.

The Act would create a commission tasked with identifying economically viable policies to achieve pollution reduction goals “that reflect the latest scientific findings of what is needed to avoid serious environmental consequences of a changing climate.”

This is exactly the type of leadership our country needs right now to overcome the climate threat while achieving sustainable prosperity powered by clean energy.

We pray that many other House Republicans will join Congressmen Curbelo, Dold, and Gibson as cosponsors of this important legislation.
