Pro-Life Christians Encouraged by Bipartisan Action on Land and Water Conservation

On January 12, 2017, in a rare display of bipartisan cooperation, Congressman Patrick Meehan (R, PA-7) and Congressman Raul Grijalva (D, AZ-3) introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives to permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), the nation's most popular and successful land conservation program. Our congratulations to both Congressmen!

Over it's 50-plus year history, LWCF has helped our country protect land in all 50 states, and is responsible for more than 40,000 state and local outdoor recreation projects, which include playgrounds, urban parks, refuges, and baseball fields. The revenue for LWCF comes from royalties paid by energy companies for being able to drill on the Outer Continental Shelf. Congress needs to permanently re-authorize this effort that doesn't cost taxpayers a dime.

The Evangelical Environmental Network represents over 200,000 pro-life Christians who understand ourselves to be called by God to be good stewards of the bounty upon which all life depends. As Christians we believe that we need to protect and defend the beauty and purity of the land water, to ensure that our children have clean skies and fresh water, because fundamentally these gifts have been entrusted to us by God. As Genesis teaches us, we are to 'tend and keep' God's world (Gen 1:26, 2:15).

All America values our public lands and we are grateful to Representatives Meehan and Grijalva for standing up for the majority of Americans.
