RECLAIM Act Progress

A Statement From The Rev. Mitch Hescox
President/CEO of the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN)

RECLAIM Act Progress: Thank You Chairman Rob Bishop

We are very grateful that the RECLAIM Act is one step closer to becoming law, having been passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee yesterday.  The bill’s main sponsor, Congressman Hal Rogers (R-KY), said this:

"I sponsored the RECLAIM Act to help revitalize coal communities all across the nation that have been devastated by the downturn of the coal industry. …This bill represents a real investment in coal country - one that will provide much needed resources to clean up the environment, create jobs and strengthen these communities from the ground up."

While we have significant differences on other issues with the Committee Chair, Rob Bishop (R-UT), we are grateful he allowed the bill to be voted out of his Committee.

Being the son and grandson of coal miners, and for more than fourteen years having worked beside coal miners, I know firsthand their value and pride in providing for our nation’s energy needs.  They deserve to be treated with respect and supported in this time of economic transition.  The RECLAIM Act will help us to provide that support.

We hope the RECLAIM Act will be quickly voted on and passed by the full House.
