Trump Administration Reconsiders Keeping the Unborn Safe From Mercury Pollution

A Statement by The Rev. Mitch Hescox
President/CEO of the Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN)
We are very disappointed with the recent court filing by the Trump Administration asking the US Court of Appeals to delay consideration of the Mercury and Air Toxics Standard (MATS) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), issued in 2012. The Administration wants to reconsider the regulation or rule. For over ten years EEN and numerous other pro-life Christian ministries and individuals have worked tirelessly to protect our unborn children from the brain threatening impacts of mercury poisoning. As many as 1 in 6 children are impacted because of mercury poisoning inside a mother’s womb. The MATS rule was a major victory in the fight to protect the unborn from mercury. Has the Trump Administration considered the impacts of mercury on the unborn? If they do, we hope and pray their pro-life values will help them see that the MATS rule should allowed to do its job of protecting the unborn.

It’s about time that Christians see that creation care and protection of the life of the unborn go hand in hand.
