We congratulate Patrick McDonnell on his confirmation by the Pennsylvania legislature to become Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). This is a tremendous opportunity for Secretary McDonnell to work with Gov. Wolf, elected officials, and the citizens of the commonwealth to make Pennsylvania a cleaner, more prosperous state.
Of particular concern is reducing pollution from both new and existing natural gas infrastructure. In working to achieve this, Sec. McDonnell has the support of nearly 40,000 pro-life Christians from Pennsylvania who have called for strong action to reduce methane emissions:
As pro-life Christians, we want the air that we breathe to be safe for our children. Leaks in our natural gas infrastructure spew out toxic pollutants, cancer-causing agents and climate pollution that place God's creation and our families - especially children, pregnant mothers, and the unborn - in harm's way. That's why we call on our elected officials to support strong regulations to cut this pollution from both new and existing leaks from our natural gas infrastructure. Our children deserve nothing less.
The Evangelical Environmental Network stands ready to support Sec. McDonnell in achieving these goals, as well as the DEP’s broader mission to make our state a cleaner, healthier place for our children. We will keep Sec. McDonnell in our prayers as he fulfills this important responsibility.
